Riders take care !!
« on: September 06, 2015, 11:17:03 PM »
Had a interesting last 36 hours at work..... :H

In addition to our usual workload my partner and I attend 3 Motorcycle accidents.....this in its self is a rarity for us not being on a particularly inspiring part of Motorcycling roadway here in the New England.

And the frustrating thing as a rider  :well......they all occoured due to the actions or inactions of the rider  :spank

1. "L" Plate rider on his new bike with 150k's on it.....briefly pulled to the roadside and parked onto sticky black soil that caked to his tyres, made it up about 25'kph when rejoining the roadway when the front wheel slipped out.....rider wearing work boots did considerable damage with multiple open fractures to his lower leg and ankle, earned a Helicopter ride and surgery for some 5 hours to reconstruct his lower leg/ankle .....won't be on his new bike or his feet for months.

2. Cow cocky riding his quad bike up the race into his shearing shed towing a dead sheep with his young daughter on the front rack for balance flipped the bike over.....young daughter was fortunately uninjured as she was thrown clear landing in soft mud and missing all the metal work in the yards.

The quad landed on the Rider with a fractured pelvis and lumbar vertebrae fractures.....Helicopter ride and surgery for this young fellow who will be not be getting his hands dirty on his property for months....and the concerned wife once he is well enough will probably put him back in hospital for his actions involving his daughter.... Rider was very peeved with his actions as he knew better but still persisted. :Stirpot

3. Rider travelling in a small group of other road users (cars) when a semi pulled out infront of traffic well into the distance that caused the traffic to gradually slow, traffic travelling at 70kph.....a tray back ute had commenced breaking to turn left and the rider didn't see the event unfolding......clipped the right rear corner of the tray and was thrown into the air and landed heavily on his side. Another obvious busted pelvis requiring surgery in addition to some nerve damage, a broken foot (wearing runners and where pulled off his foot) and chest injuries...another very long recovery.....this fellow to got a helicopter ride to the area Trauma centre for his lack of attention to his surroundings.

Moral of the story.....Be vigilant, ride smart be situational aware and think about what your wearing on the bike  :think1

It's really scary to be riding up here at the moment.  We've had a motorcyclist die every week for the last 3 weeks, all on roads I regularly ride, all bike vs cage.  All young, possibly going too fast (looking at photos of the wreckage), but still didn't deserve to die for it.  With Darwin being such a small community, everyone is affected by this.  I didn't know any of them personally, but many of my friends did.  It has been absolutely horrific!

Stay safe everyone.

You all are so right,
Three weeks ago I was one street from home.
Had just been down to TeamMoto at Springwood to have 2 new tyres fitted.
Doing 35Kph in a 50Kph zone and sitting more to the centre line when caught something out of the left eye and proceeded to move closer to the centre line.
Tin top travelling the other way stopped my moving further to the right.
Maintained my position and there we have it, T/Boned by a 12 year old girl on a pushie.
94 ST1100 written off as well as gear and helmet that bit the bitumen.
Shannons were great with the settlement.
All witnesses stated to the Police that I did nothing wrong & after a mandatory breathalyzer, the police confirmed the same.
Seeing that the girl was only 12 no charges were laid and not even a caution from the uniformed that attended.
We both finished in front except for the loss of the bike.
The young girl ended up with a broken arm and abrasions to the left side of her face.
I ended up with bits of skin off the usual places and #6 rib fractured so all in all a lucky escape for both.
If I had been 30 _ 45Cm closer to the kerb the outcome may have been a whole different story for the young girl.
After taking to the brother who is under the care of an Opthamologist, kids don"t develop their peripheral vision until 13 - 14 years of age.
Sometimes no matter how much care is taken accidents can and do happen.
On the brighter side I am now the happy & proud owner of Barry & Marissa's 2004 Blue ST1300.
So looking forward to taking it for a ride.

T-boned by a little girl on a push-bike!    :eek
Just shows how vulnerable we are.
It appears she needs to develop a bit more road sense before leaving the yard next time.  You would have thought she'd have learned to look around by that age!
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

My wife & I saw her a week after the accident and I asked the question, "you won't do that again,  will you ". Her reply was NO I walk to school with a friend now.  I decided to leave it at that. The attitude of her mother at the scene of the drama remained a lot to be desired seeing that it was her little treasure that caused it and not the one lying on his back in the middle of the road.

The main thing is that you are still with us, not detracting from the incident and the pain you are suffering.

Speedy recovery

Speedy recovery GOF54. Proving once again you cannot be too careful, especially close to home. Glad no one was too badly hurt. Welcome and I hope you are back riding very soon.

The attitude of her mother at the scene of the drama remained a lot to be desired seeing that it was her little treasure that caused it and not the one lying on his back in the middle of the road.

My wife is a school teacher and regularly tells me of incidents illustrating the fact that "mothers' little treasures" are NEVER in the wrong!
