I bought mine in Brisbane in March 2006 with 92,000 on the ODO.  There were two available at the time with very similar kays.
Both apparently well maintained- had the stamped logbooks with them.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Mine is a 2000 model brought with 72,000ks for $5000.

WA got rid of all their ST1100's and a fair chuck of the 1300's, cut the fleet to the bone.

I would like to make the comment that the ST1100 with 100 to 120 thousand on the clock is still only just worn in, there are plenty on here with 200 to 250 thousand and going strong....

Robb,

It depends on when it was first commissioned. They were originally getting rid at around 62,000K's. Then as the 1300's started to come in they hung onto them for a while longer, I know of one that got to 130,000 before it went to auction, but that was an exceptional case (don't know why but it's the only one I ever heard off) and then as the fleet got to be mostly 1300's they started to decommission them earlier so it would be a 1300 fleet.

So, there you go...........clear as mud. :think1

If it's been serviced regularly and in reasonable condition there's not much that could go wrong, they were a bloody fantastic bike (I still miss mine sometimes)

Good luck,

Iam told when the public could only buy ST1300, ST1100's were still being made available to Police around the globe as late as 2003.

Mine had 124,000 km on the clock when I bought it couple of weeks ago, but it'd been through a couple of private owners since it was ridden by the Po-Po.  I'm quite happy with that mileage, as they are built like brick outhouses.

The VIN on mine identifies it as made in 2000, but it was first rego-ed in 2002.  So the ST1100s that were being sold to the Police in 2003 were al 2000 manufacture.

:think1   Just a update.Went to see/ride a st1100 that was in gumtree for $5500, 66k on the clock,2003.The bike had 2x delkevic mufflers/exhausts on it,the sound when your on the bike was noisey as hell and sounded like a bike that hadnt been serviced for a long time although the engine sounded sweet. When I took it for a spin it felt sluggish and lacking power. The only thing I can think of is the carbs may need to be retuned for the exhaust !.

Robb, don't get hung up on wanting a low mileage on.  The ST1100 is built like a brick outhouse and if it's been looked after should be good for 250,000 km or so.  So, the order of importance I think is:

Maintenance history:  Remember that ST1100s haven't been maintained by the Po-Po for maybe 8 years or more so you want the previous owners maintenance records too
Condition:  What do the fairings, tires, etc look like, what does the engine and gearbox feel like.
Mileage:  OK, it'd be nice to get a low mileage one but don't worry about looking at bikes with well over 100,000 km if you're happy with maintenance and condition.

One thing, Po-Po bikes, even up to 2002/3 models (and I think you'll find the VIN for 2002/3 registered bikes is for 2000 manufacture) continued top have the larger grey engine cover where the civvie versions had a smaller engine cover from about 1996 - I've got a smaller engine cover which doesn't fit my ex-Po-Po bike.  Thinks to himself, must list this on OzSTOC!
At my age you realise something very important, then ten minutes later you've forgotten it.

If not too late then...
1) not all x police 1100's are still white, many have been refinished and noticably so!
2) you should not expect to pay more than 4.5k for one, especially if it is x 'job'.
3) many police 1100's out n about with low K's were sold to the general public without being used by the police. These are probably the prefered bikes.
4) 1100 odometers are very easily tampered with.

There was a refinished example recently I was asked to look over for someone in Victoria, the vendor was asking 3k and for that price I never bothered to look at it but instead suggest to offer 2.5k on it.

Just a thought or two

Ciao, the can :-)

The zero if the 88,000 kms are legit is ok. There's no tenth of a kay on the odometer, only on the trip meter. I'd be more concerned of a low mileage older 1300 as odometer resets to 000000 after 199,999 kms.

It will be slowly moving, as they are gear driven. It has been slowly moving since day 1, at 0.00036 degrees per kilometer

Robb

To put your mind to rest, mine has done 97,000ks and the zero is in the almost same position as your pic, so I would say its legit.

I got mine at the auction at about 70 odd k so I know the speedo hasn't been tampered with.

Cheers

The zeros do go like that.  I have been through a few such instances as my ST1100P has done 207,000kms.

Have you found a new bike yet?
If you can't find the ex-police unit you are chasing, I rode this bike at Hinterland Motorcycles on the Gold Coast (67,000k).  It is IMHO in exceptionally good condition and worthy of a good look.  It is perhaps at the top of the price chain.  Well actually it is as I would have to add a top box on top of the $6000.  Had I not got my 1300 at almost the same price (with 108000k) , it would be in my garage today.  Paul sold a 2000 ST1100P with 202,000k for $3500 two days before I bought my bike.  Sailed through roadworthy needing only head bearings (apparently it had the originals still in it) and they replaced the final drive seal that was just starting to weep.  To say they are build like a brick outhouse may be somewhat of an understatement.  They hold their $$$$$ very well too boot. :grin

http://hinterlandmotorcycles.com.au/bikesforsale.html    Go to page 1.  There are two ST's.

Hey Rob, bought mine 6 weeks ago here in Perth for 5500 with 50000km on her. Saw one in maddington for 3500 with 130000km with trailer but wanted the lower km. I think was 99 model. Mine is 2000 model. Done trip to Kalbarri on long weekend and really enjoyed. After speaking and meeting guys on here I would not stress on kms. The other one I was looking at was listed on Gumtree as ST100 so may still be there..
