Interesting spot this 'Glympse' ... it actually shows the target moving in real time on the map.
Spanner is now mobile and on his way back to Townsville.

-
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/o.jpg)

Now on the Murray Valley Hwy, my guess is a left turn for Tocumwal?
-
pretty close to the border now
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/q.jpg)
-
Making pretty good time. About 270 km in just under 3 hours, now over the border and passing through Tocumwal
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/r.jpg)
-
Now on the Newell Hwy in Finley, 300 Km completed.. another 40 Km to Jerilderie, and a further 100 km to Narrandera.

-
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/t.jpg)
-
Time for a break at the BP, Jerilderie. 3 and a half hours non stop from St Kilda.
-
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/22.jpg)
-
Just a 10 minute break (Fuel?) and away again.
-
Ok, NOT going via Narrandera, left turn onto the Kidman Way?

-
around 560 Km ridden so far
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/cc_2.jpg)
-
Hillston ...570 Km
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/dd_1.jpg)
-
Dave backtracked to Hillston for a few minutes, whether it was a fuel stop or refreshment break is unknown
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/ee_1.jpg)
-
Used jerry can of fuel, loo and sore bum stop.
All good. Feeling a little chilly at this hour but still ok.
Looking forward to breaky at my next stop.
-
Appears to be walking around
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/ff.jpg)
-
No problems Dave.. :thumb
-
Ever onwards...
-
About another 250 km ahead to arrive at Cobar.
I might take another short break...
-
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/hh.jpg)
-
Glympse has not updated for the past 26 minutes, so he is another 50 Km ahead of the last map.
Remote area, back o' Bourke? :grin
-
46 minutes since last map update... must be no coverage in that area?
-
Has now been an hour since last update?
-
Last location places him 135 km north of Hillston and 122 km south of Cobar at a road junction to Ivanhoe at around 6.30 am.
-
Ah!... map has just updated, he is now around 40 km south of Cobar. Must have taken a rest break.
Speed is not recorded.
-
Is now only 10 minutes or so from Cobar, where I guess he will stop for breakfast.
-
830 km since 11pm last night. Map has not updating for past 10 mins, must be poor reception
-
Is traveling v e r y slowly at present.. still about 2 Km from town.
-
Now in the main street and has pulled into the Shell Servo a block west of the Pizza shop
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/ll.jpg)
-
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/33_1.jpg)
-
NOM! NOM!
-
Had a 40 minute kip 30 kays south of Cobar
Now eating pie and coffee.
-
Good stuff mate!
-
Thanks for the updates throughout the night Kev :hatwave
Awesome work Spanner, keep up the good work and thanks for taking the time to post up a comment every now and then :-++ :-++ :-++
(I know it can be a little hard to think of other things like posting on the forum sometimes when out on a ride, it's great to read the comments from you :thumbsup)
Anyway have fun, I'm off to bed as I have work again tonight, enjoy the remainder of the ride mate and keep the updates coming Kev :hatwave
-
Thanks Shiney.. :thumb Sleep well. I have to go out for a short while to deliver a hard drive at 9.30. Will be home again before 9.45
Will catch Spanner again then.
-
Thanks Kev.
Same sentiments Shiney.
Spanner & Kev,
I accidently touched the open padlock icon on my tablet when I was changing grip, and now is not updating. Hopefully I haven't stuffed it for all.
Cheers,
Gary
sent using another of Gadget's gadgets.
-
155 km to Bourke from Cobar.
-
In my old stamping grounds, Bourke. Will be warmish out there today! :H
-
Very quick refuel at Frank's BP!
He's on a mission! :thumb
-
Start and Destination in frame for some progress perspective in just over 12 hours.

Cheers,
Gary
-
Using the Glympse app to view it.
Glympse is good for live, but you only have a 4 hour window for sharing. Spanner is doing a good job to remember to reset it.

Cheers,

Phew!
In Cunnamulla for fuel and a short stint in the aircon.
It's 38 deg out there and I'm feeling it!
Feeling good though so onward solders rides!

Doing great, Dave.

200 km to Charleville, and next fuel stop is planned for Tambo, another 200 km ahead
-
OA 92.75 is quite respectable.
He's doing amazingly well in that heat. I'm staying indoors in Brissie- I went 10 kays on the bike a couple of hours ago and the bike temp read 40.
-
He did a lap of the main street of Charleville- now been there, seen that! Nothing to see here! Wot thuh
-
Last time I was in this area I counted over 70 kangaroos between Morven /Augathella / Tambo.....
But that was early morning. With todays heat, they will hopefully stay away from the road.
-
1500 km covered in around 17 and a quarter hours. Not too shabby. I bet he will welcome the 'cooler?' travel this evening
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/rr.jpg)
-
At this stage he's got about 6 hours to spare, so guess he'll take a nap somewhere.
Which way from Barcaldine- east or west? East might be cooler.
-
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/ss.jpg)
-
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/tt.jpg)
-
Not sure which route he is taking back to Townsville, maybe Barcy / Aramac / Torrens Creek? ... maybe Barcy / Clermont / Charters Towers?
-
Arrival at Fuel stop in Tambo in about 1 minute
-
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/uu.jpg)
-
Straight past the Caltex- now doing a u-ey.
-
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/55_1.jpg)
-
Straight past the Caltex- now doing a u-ey.
....missed it by that much... :grin
Now cutting laps of the main drag?
-
Time for a walk in the park...
-
Having a sit down in Tambo park eating a can of road heated baked beans. Have had to let them cool down!
:rofl
apparently Tambo is 'famous' for being the site of the first QANTAS crash. :o

The things you learn reading plaques! :grin
Going well mate! Looks like you've got the heat beat. Should start cooling down soon.
-
Crikey!... are they STILL on about that?... that was 90 years ago! (Yep!.. I read that plaque, too!)
-
Straight past the Caltex- now doing a u-ey.

-
Right .... according to my calculations..... which are never good at the best of times I can grab a quick snooze for about 4 hours and still have 2 hours up my sleeve for the run to the finish line.
I'm thinking my next secret spot will be a good place for a quiet lay down.
It's not to long to get there. Nudge nudge wink wink. :p
Thanks for following so far.
time for a stretch and back on the beaST
-
:thumb So.... do the baked beans improve your acceleration from standing
Fa ... err.. starts? :grin
Rest well.
-
...and away we go again... roughly 200 Km to Barcy ...
-
Through Blackall...
-
Speed has now come back online... has been pretty constant the whole trip... 64 MPH on most roads, 70 MPH on freeways
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/xx_1.jpg)
-
just looking at my diary, Its almost 5 years to the day since I rode here... I traveled along this road 17th January 2012
-

Yep- speed display has been back for a while.
Interestingly, my 'puter/browser displays Kph in his info box.

Thats odd? ... must be something hidden in my computer setup?
-
Might leave you for awhile and grab a short nap. ... and I haven't been riding a bike all night and day?
(By the way, there's a great bakery/coffee shop on the main street at Barcy)
-
Having another bum rest break. :spank
-
Having another bum rest break. :spank
At the Barcaldine Country Motor Inn?
You deserve a bit more than a bum break...
-
Well that blew two theories! He's off again, for one, and heading west (it's slightly longer that way) for another.
He's obviously got a plan, and is managing to stick to it. :thumbs
There's rain forecast for the eastern route and for his homecoming.
-
Lost him there for 10 minutes, thought he might have pulled up in an IBA Hotel that's near where he was, but he's away again. He'd been up around 110, and dropped back to 95, so I figured the roos might have been spooking him but he's steady on 100 now.
-
I guessed wrong on destination.

Snooze time .... after intreaych the vid on how to pick up a big beast of the ground!! Stopped at annika motel and forgot that the grass was wet and ..... oops!
Bugger! :think1
-
very close to 2000 km traveled in the past 23 and a half hours
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/ccc.jpg)
-
Found his IBA Motel at last (after the usual lap of the town)!
Not sure about the "Annika Motel" according to the marker, he's here:

-
success!!
https://youtu.be/cWrsyP1tJuM
-
we are about to lose his link in 20 mins, unless he resets it.
-
I'll reset at once monsisignor
:Whipped
-
Right ..... I think I will be up and at em in 2.5 hours.
See ya then
-
The alarm must have gone off- he's moving!
-
:grin :thumb
-
If the forecast is right, the sunrise he'll be heading into should be cloud-covered. Makes a huge difference out on the flat plains.
-
Sure does, Bill. I remember riding into the rising sun from Barcaldine towards Emerald, and that glare is an eye and vision killer... I couldn't see the lines on the road, had to stop until the sun was higher.
-
Looks like he's gone to play on the slippery slide after the morning ablutions. :grin
Less than an hour left. Do a reset before you leave, Dave!
-
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/66_1.jpg)
-
Thanks for that info, Bill :thumb
-
Waiting for Dave to move and set course for home, and then I will head to bed.
He is roughly 8 and a half hours from Townsville via Hughenden, 875 Km
-
Same here. Just sent a PM.
-
AAAargh! ... fell asleep in my chair!
Spanner on the move again. I have no idea where he is heading, but know 'zackerly which way I am going!
Travel safe, Dave.. will be back later.
-
Right ..... I think I will be up and at em in 2.5 hours.
See ya then
-
Had flat tyre when I woke up.
Just checkin low.
Seems ok
charter towered is the ' official' finishing zone but I would like to make to Tsv in the time frame if I could.
-
Whats the time limitation for Charters Towers?
-
... Right turn, Clyde!
... and time to reset Glympse again ... it just expired 5 km short of Winton.
-
Well looks like my goal of a SS2500 has been scuppered by cheap Chinese crap.
I have a slowish leak in the rear tyre but enough to be requiring some regular top up of air.
Of course outback towns don't have 24 hour 'service' just 24 hour fuel.
The pump has shatnitself and the servo has locked away its air compressor.
They don't open to I think 6 am which does not leave me enough time to make it to charters Towers.
Bugger!
-
arrr, BUGGA!
-
This is the reason I carry two air compressors in my kit.
-

-
I only just bought this two days ago.
Sigh
Missed it by 'this' much!
-
Take heart in the fact that you are not the only person who has been let down in a challenge by dud equipment
There's a BP roadhouse just 2 blocks further on?
-
Oh dear .... being Sunday tomorrow they don't open till 9am!
:rofl :rofl
-
I won't say the words I was thinking, but they are the same size as the ones you used, just in the opposite order.
-
Bugger! You were doing well. I presume you were feeling well.
Cheers,
Gary
-
I guess it really comes under the principle of 'Shi dappens' ... one small thing leads to another.
-
Some RideOn might have helped. Or Zssshh
Cheers,
Gary
-
I used to carry a can of Zssshh years ago... had a flat somewhere south of Port Hedland.
The can suggests that you get the tyre repaired properly within 50 miles or whatever.
Was on the inland road to Perth through Meekatharra, and had the tube repaired in Perth, some 1500 km later....
-
bit of a bugger with the flat and stuffed pump Dave. Look forward to your next run :thumb :beer
-
Just up myself.
That answers the questions we had about why you were wandering around in the park.
Sorry that all fell apart. Did you happen to get witnesses for the SS1600 back in Barcaldine?
-

I have a similar Zssshh story, but with a car tyre. Drove for about 1,000 km because I was coming home for a long weekend through the Friday night. Got it repaired Sat morning in Brisbane.
Cheers,
Gary
-
It was an awesome attempt mate :thumbsup
Sorry to hear that it didn't work out :'( I'm sure you'll make it next time :runyay

http://glympse.com/013K-4SKZ (http://glympse.com/013K-4SKZ)
Should be in Hughenden in about 2 hours
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/hhh.jpg)
-
From Hughenden to Charters Towers is another 250 Km, and Townsville about a further 140 Km.
-
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/iii.jpg)
-
Making good time, about 5 minutes from Hughenden now
-
.. and of course, the obligatory main street run..
-
He did his customary lap of the town before settling on the Hughenden Caltex at 1:15 EST.
-
Full tank again, and onto the Flinders Highway
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/lll.jpg)
-
Spot of lunch and drink of ice tea.
Went through. Rain shower that was heavy enough to warrant the wet weather gear only to pop around the corner to see the rain stopped 300 meter up the road. So hot that I got wetter sweating thanks did by the radio n
Hahahaha
Now it will be a 'quick' trip to Townsville.
-
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/77.jpg)
-
ETA Townsville approx 17:40 Qld time.
I will no doubt write up a report and include some photos etc in due course.
-
Now it will be a 'quick' trip to Townsville.
Only 4+ hours from home, now :thumbs (maybe a little less ?)
You had time to take photos???? :-++ :-++
Ah well, at least home before dark, and a good sleep tonight, eh?
-
The road beckons...
-
FWIW, the second stop in Hughenden was actually here:
Good to read the forecast rain is actual- it will make for a nice cool ride home.
-
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/nnn.jpg)
-
Shit I think I am stranded!
Tyre has just about shit itself!
I have a huge bubble where I have been plugging the puncture.
-
BUGGER!!
-
Now is the time when you have to call in a friend with a trailer ... or at least a tyre ... on a Sunday?
At least you are not stuck out on the Hwy.
-
Low speed u turn .. does not look good... unless it's a photo stop?
-
Get out of the river, Dave!.. this is no time to go swimming? :grin (roadside parking bay rest stop)
-
At least he's got facilities there- shelter, loo, water. Quaint how Google shows it to be a riverbed! :eek
He's just 84 km from Charters Towers, so help isn't far away. If he has RACQ, they'll rescue him pretty quickly.
-
There might even be some tame Grey Nomads camping there who will give him a sympathetic cup of coffee. You get that. :thumb
-
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s277/cool_blue_ice_2002/88.jpg)
-
He's doing a lot of pacing...
as you do!

We have been talking..... ;-* working a RAN plan.

-
Car & Trailer on the way from Townsville (mate of Dave's).
Our plan B was an Eastbound Truckie from the lights on the hill Roadhouse at Hughenden who was going to collect him on the way through and stash the bike roadside and Dave return for it later ;-*
Cheers
-
Plan A is much better. We don't abandon our ships as per Plan B!
Good to hear help is on its way.
Well done RAN team.
-
Home safe and sound.
Many thanks to Kev for his constant surveillance and sharing of info
Many thanks to ST2UP and the RAN network ..... even though I ended up with a mate coming to the rescue it was EXTREMELY comforting knowing I had a network that was preparing to either send support or make calls and contact random trykies etc etc.
Who ever thought of the RAN concept in the first place needs a gold medal and
A chocolate milk.
I will post some other info as a round up later during the week with a photo of the offending tyre and offending electric air pump.
Again ..... many thanks and I have already started planning my SS2600/36hr rematch.
-
