It depends upon the zoom factor in the original photo, as any lens other than one that simulates "normal" vision, distorts the perspective. I may know the zoom factor, as you have "nicked" one of my photos for this exercise.

[/size]Science would have us believe that at around a height of 6ft ASL - we can see about 3 and a quarter miles to the unobstructed horizon. Would love to know how wide you could see in this pic. [size=78%]

It's the east coast cause the waves are rolling in to the beach ..... now if it was South Australia the waves would be rolling parallel to the shore line and if it was Western Australia the waves would be going away from the beach.......

So with that said to see how wide the distance is on the photo you need to calculate the Pi Squared by the aperture of the camera and then multiply that by the atmospheric pressure on the day sub-divided by the temperature squared should give you the distance over Pi........... easy
