A new name for the bike
« on: December 25, 2013, 09:53:01 AM »
My ST has a new name for Christmas. Couldn't keep calling it Pomegranate.

MYST is the name of a game, Wikipedia says "The gameplay of Myst consists of a first-person journey through an interactive world." Sounds about right.

This seems like a good thread to pick up on again, and I know that  Wombattle's "MYST" has gone to the other side while on an epic adventure some time ago.

After some deliberation, I've christened my new bike "GhoST"
*  It is the spirit of an ST
*  It quietly sneaks up on cars and scares them when they see it appear behind them

Why have other members chosen the particular names for their bikes?

My ST was ‘Phantom’, because he’s a nice bluey-purple and is nice and quiet... but over time he’s just become ‘Bluey’.

I've only ever referred to mine as the kwaka although my daughter refers to all my bikes as the color they were.

Over the years we have always named our cars - we have had Jemima, Pongo, Perdie, RumbleBuffin, Doris and Lightning, but we have never named a bike.

I started putting up names for the ST, all of them containing the letters ST, but wifie kept shooting them down with the insistence “we don’t name bikes”. After a few weeks of this she said in exasperation “look if you are going to name it, call it STrudel”. I looked at her in amazement “did you actually say that?”. STrudel had a better ring than any of my names. And so it was ....

I never called my either of my STs anything more than "she" (actually a girls name) or "it" and sometimes it's "her".

After we got the 1300 Heather named it "Wildfire" and after more than 12 years the 1100 got named "Misty Blue"

A few of us have called our Candy Glory Reds "Ruby".  I picked up my second red one on a Tuesday, and one of our departed members suggested "Ruby2sday"
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

most of our vehicles have names, so here goes... our STeed - she's red and like many others of her ilk, elegant and goes like stink, so hello to Miss Scarlett Thunderbolt.
Miss Scarlett tows a trailer (also been carted around on a few :fp)... so along came Rolling Thunder.
hyundai terracans' are commonly called Terry or Jerry or just the Can - yawn!... had to work with a Muppet called Terry, so something different... something a bit Oz... terracan - billy can... so the name Bill seemed to fit.
and finally, our 19yo van... her licence plate ends in QEO... we thought like the elegant liner QE2... so she's Miz Lizzie.  Cheers, John & Kate.

Ah a bunch of crazies like us :-). Our kids have nicknames that have mutated and re-mutated over the years to the extent that it would take a long cup of coffee to properly explain them, a bit like your billycan. Love it.

My brother for Vulture as a nickname because of our family name and that mutated to Terradactyl and by the time he left it was just Terra.

As he raised his kids, the snow White and 7 dwarves glass set collectibles cave out and none of his kids wanted the Grumpy mug as you were which mug you had, so my Brother said he would be Grumpy. One day one of his kids said I'll remember that for when you're a grandfather, 10 years later, she had her first and called him Grumpy and it's stuck.
