Pendle ST1300 Parking Brake
« on: December 26, 2013, 08:26:18 AM »
http://www.tworrall.talktalk.net/

Here you go!     For all of those who were interested in a Middleton Handbrake, here's an alternative, known as a Pendle Parking Brake.   It can be purchased via ebay at http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Honda-ST1300-Parking-Brake-for-Models-2003-2008-/231105750923?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item35cef9e78b&_uhb=1 for around $70 AUD, and postage from GB looks like it is included.   I just might get my self one of these.

I've sent an e.mail to Tony to confirm if shipping to Oz is included.    Make sure you order the correct kit, as there are two ST1300 kits, depending upon the type of brake lever that you have fitted.

I've just ordered a Pendle Parking Brakes via ebay.   Tony covers the postage, so the kit has cost me about $70 Aussie dollars, delivered.   Once I receive it, I'll post some photos and provide a report.

The type of brake lever was changed during 2008, so refer to the photos on the web site http://www.tworrall.talktalk.net/ and make sure you order the correct kit.

My "Pendle Parking Brake" arrived today.   It was a ten minute job to fit it accordance with the supplied instructions,  which are also shown on the web site link.   http://www.tworrall.talktalk.net/    It's an alternative to the Middleton Brake that Abe and Saaz are using.   I haven't posted any photos, 'cause there's lots on their web site.

Hope no one objects but I have just joined your forum from the England where we do not talk about the cricket. I would like to thank all your members who have shown an interest in and especially to those who have purchased my Pendle Parking Brakes. Yes postage is F.O.C.
I have not sold many ST1100 ones but the 1300s are going reasonably well from down under.
The feedback I have received from Oz, USA, Canada and Europe has been great but sales are a bit slow in the Northern hemisphere I think due to the wintery weather, all bikes are laid up under cover hibernating.
I really appreciate the feedback I get from you guys, especially about the 40 deg weather you are currently getting. I do not know how you cope with wearing all the gear in those temperatures. The Pans must be blowing hot air over your legs all time. Wish you could send some of it our way ( 5 deg wet and windy here - so whats new I hear you say ).
Thanks again for your interest and great comms & feedback - it really is appreciated.
Kind regards
Tony

Sorry to report that I am ending the production of the ST1300 P/Brake due to a failure of sales.

I will be continuing with the ST1100 type as this one continues to be very popular all over the world.

I have been informed that the lack of sales of the 1300 type probably stems from an article in the UK Pan Clan
magazine which was critical of the design and raised safety concerns.
The article suggested that it should have been designed upside down (HOW?) as this would prevent any failure
of a broken spring causing a potential hazard. It also suggested that over vigorous cleaning could damage
the spring.

Details of all the safety tests carried out (including broken spring or jammed plunger) were provided to the Pan Clan UK
These safety tests proved conclusively that the Pan Clan report was nothing more than academic clap trap.
Unfortunately my reply to them which included details of the tests were completely ignored and not published.

I have not received a single reported failure of the ST1100 design in over 14 years, on the contrary, everyone
has been extremely complimentary.

The ST1300 design follows the exact same principle as the ST1100 type.

To the few people who have purchased the ST1300 brake I will assure you of my full service backup and support.

Following this announcement, if any of my 1300 customers have any concerns about safety, quality or reliability of
the product I have supplied I am prepared to offer a full refund should you wish to return the item. Please be assured
that a broken spring or jammed plunger can never prevent the brake being applied. THE DESIGN IS FAILSAFE.

Regards
A disappointed
Tony

Hi
I have not relisted the 1300 on ebay as I was just wasting money with the ads
No sales for 2 months except one to Oz.
As I give free postage it is not really worthwhile selling just to Oz - I needed a UK market to help me to continue.
Kind regards
Tony

I definitely want one of these. I have exchanged emails with Tony and he is happy to look at a group buy if there are others definitely interested. Any starters?

I bought one a few months ago, so can't justify another, but I can highly recommend this brake from Tony. Once ST1300 owners see them, how they work, and how handy they are, they will want one! Just make sure you get the correct one for pre-08 models.

I would just like to say thank you very much for all the emails/messages of good will etc I have received from all you guys "down under".
The brakes have now been relisted on Ebay but I can confirm that a group buy and delivery to a single Aussie address would attract a reasonable discount.
Thanks again for all your support.
Kind regards
Tony

One thing I did mean to say is before anyone orders, check your brake lever type as I needed the '09 and later type, but my '08 model ST has the later type of brake lever. Not sure why, but it's worth checking yours just in case....Yours should definitely be right Terry.
