M/C insurance
« on: August 10, 2014, 11:27:06 AM »
Just thought I'd share this observation.
I have been getting some online quotes for insurance and noticed that the suncorp form seemed very similar to the AAMI one. When it got to the actual price page, it was more than double the AAMI quote yet had an identical format quote reference, ie it was actually AAMI but rebranded under Suncorp and more than doubled in price. :think1

But aren't Suncorp the good guys?  They tell us that in their adverts.
If you're in Qld you can't go past QBE who will beat anyone's quote.

Well, even QBE werent the cheapest, and I take a bit of a moral stand to companies that rely on savvy customers to "keep the bastards honest", they should be honest up front and do their own research.
I have found that insurance companies seem to use some sort of "common" details form, but to have an identical input form and even provide the quote with the AAMI QTExxxxxxxx format seems a bit rich and lazy.

It also has some discussion about insurance costs.    My 2008 ST1300 is $365 this year through Insure My Ride.

I have Swann insurance through my Honda dealer. It is agreed value for $13000 for $499. Lots of extra cover, helmet $1000, locks $2000 plus riding gear up to $3000. Excess $400. I have all other insurance through Youi so may look at swapping at renewal.  What is excess an bike insurance with other companies?

Most insurance companies are owned/underwritten/agent for only a few major companies. You can still get better deals by looking around.  I went with Shannons as I have all the insured vehicles on one policy and easy to, say, just add the ST1100 as being used on the road again with just a phone call.

Couldn't agree more, if you have a few vehicles, have a good track record are not a teenager then I believe Shannon's is your best call.

I acknowledge hardworking Australians no matter who they are or where they come from. All those who have contributed to this wonderful country deserve an equal share of gratitude for their contributions. To single any group of individuals out for special homage only denigrates the rest of us.

$294 sounds very good. I must check Swann again to compare. This is also a test to see if deleting tapatalk,  altering settings etc will allow me to be ppopeye on it.

Well that was weird. I hadn't proceeded with any insurance but the update tonight from ppopeye kicked me into gear again. I went to retrieve the AAMI quote I had received and the price jumped from $354 to over $500. I dropped the value to the lowest allowed at $8800 and the premium dropped to $493.
Had a look at Swann and got a quote for just $230 for $10000 value and including $1000 for gear. Decided I should take it now before they change their minds.....

I dont get where you get these cheap policies from, ive just been on shannons and got a annual premium of $1128 with a $400 excess,
I'm 50, use the bike infrequently, garage it most of the time, have held my full bike licence for over 30 years. What am I missing?

Check what they are insuring it for. Red book price for a 2000 1100 is apparently 16K. That is what mine was initially insured for until I queried the price.

Ive just gone to Swann, and for an agreed price of $10,000 with $500 helmet cover, Free riding cover of $1000 and a $400 excess my annual premium was $232. I'm amazed after what shannons quoted.

Really makes you wonder what the point of Redbook is!
And you have to ask what research they did to find one worth that (being what a reasonable person would pay).  Try half that, then be prepared to drop another couple of grand.

Always an interesting topic, one that I can never understand. I have my 04 1100PY with Swann insured for $8.5 k for $310? $400 excess . Made an inquiry for a second bike that I bought the other day for my missus to learn on, an 08 Suzuki Burgman 250. Rang Swann, policy in her name $550,in my name with her on the policy as a co rider $210. Both full Comp. See if you can work that out. Both of us over 50 near perfect history....Go figure................................................................................. :eek :eek :wht11

A clear anti-female bias.  Won't go down well with the women's libbers!
