Front and Rear Brakes Question

Probably a silly question but I am none the wiser, are the front pads the same as the rear?

Just asked these guys just to clarify they're for my ST1300

Alot cheaper than blue city who wanted to charge $110 per pair, damn rort, who told me to go to them cos they were good, not likely.

Looks like front and rear use the same pads on the 1300 from years 2002 up to and including 2007 which are also the same pads as the 1996 and newer 1100A fronts

Strange they give a different part number for the 1100A rear but the front pads do fit the rear as well.

OEM front and rear pads are NOT the same for the 1300.
the rear are thicker

Front pads up top, rear pads down the bottom..........dimensions are the same when you select the pad number.

You can buy genuine honda pads from David Silver in the UK for 18.95 pounds per set plus delivery. Will certainly be a lot less than the $110 you mentioned.

From memory on my 2003 1300 there is some differences between the front and rear.
I think that the rear should have a extra slit in the backing plate which works as a key way when fitting. I think that I had to modify the last set that I purchased off the E Bay, Supposed to fit but would not , So used the trusty angle grinder to cut out the little key way slot as required . I suggest when you pull the pads do a comparison check between the front and rear of the old  sets of pads.
 The memory also tells me that something was too thick to fit in also , so I only replaced one side and then reused one of the least worn old pads for the other side , also I left out the stainless backing pad in order to get the extra clearance required.
I do not do a big mileage and I have a brake pad inspection down on the must do maintenance list which is due in a couple of months , just in order to keep an eye on things.

I found the OEM Honda pads for my 1100A had the backing plate which my current set of ceramic aftermarket ones didn't have but the pads would not go in using the old plate so I left them off.

  I just replaced the rear pads on my ST1300 (shineys old one) and noticed the new pads from metalgear are a LOT thinner, leaving my pistons sticking way out????

The front pads can be fitted to the rear, as they are the same shape, but are thinner than the rear. The rear pads will not fit in the front.

Have a look at Metal Gear for replacement pads, they are good, cheaper and easily purchased on the net.

  I went and spoke to the owner and he said any of these can be fitted to the rear , just depends on how thick you want them: 30 057 S, 30 145 S, 30 317 S..
 OR if like me live 3k from Brendale go pick them up
