Future National Rally in the NT
« on: April 07, 2015, 08:46:58 PM »
Ok, so I've been thinking how much all of you might like opening up the thrttle a bit on our stretch of open speed limit. Just thought I'd put it out there and see how many would be interested in coming up here before I start to do too much in the way of investigating the feasibility. All feedback appreciated.

I put Darwin, due to the logistic al problems of trying to organise events and accommodation at remote locations, and only having a couple of people to do the ground work.  We had similar problems with logistics for the WA gathering.

I put Darwin as that would give us an excuse to see the sis in law and Darwin but Katherine and "The Alice" would be okay as well. I don't care to much about Ayer's Rock it's just another rip off the tourist place now.

The speed limit doesn't bother me to much and with the trailer anything much over 90-100 just waste's fuel.

If the NT was to host a National Rally, it would be highly unlikely that I would attend.

There is nothing wrong with National Rallies or the NT, it is just that it would be too far for me to ride to and fro, even Alice Springs, with the limited time available for me.

It is for these reasons that I won't be attending the National Rally in WA.

You can always do what I did for Toowoomba and fly. If it happened to be Darwin I'm sure I could lend you a bike.

I'd go Darwin, that way I'd be able to visit all my mates from when I lived there 17 years ago...

Katherine has the Gorge, a Museum, lovely Caravan Park, Tindal Airforce Base & Civilian Airport, easy run to Mataranka Hot Springs, nice run out to Jabiru via Pine Creek, lots of swimming holes and waterfalls within great riding distance . . . A great place . . Well it was when I lived and worked there in 1966 . . .

Can someone please fix the polling on this thread . . . It just won't let me vote more then once . . . Stupid bloody thing . . .

I'll second that. Katherine's a great destination, no humidity and lots of accommodation too.

I only lived there for 14 months in 66/67 . . . But I was young and the humidity didn't worry me . .  A different story now . . But Darwin is even more humid . .

If Darwin is anything like Karratha/Port Hedland, Broome etc. then there's only two seasons; Cyclone ( Nov-Apr) and Tourist (May-Sept).

More commonly known by locals as "terrorist season". If Darwin (or Katherine) was chosen for a Nat Rally, I'd definitely recommend June as the date
