Trip Advice
« on: May 31, 2016, 08:52:18 AM »
Hi all,
I am just after a bit of local knowledge from you New England Tablelanders.
On the Saturday of the upcoming long weekend I will be leaving Gloucester at 7 am to ride to Kyogle via Glen Innes and Casino.
Given the cold we have been experiencing are there any potential road issues apart from the usual morons, like ice (frozen water not the drug) or frozen kangaroos that i should watch out for.
Thanks.

It will be well into the day by the time you get up here on top, shady corners on the bottom end of Thunderbolts way are probably your biggest concern.

As far as riding conditions go wind chill will be your biggest nemesis this time of year.......it's near midday here now in Guyra we still are not at double figures yet although the sun is out and not a cloud to be seen, add 100kph to this ambient temp and it smashes the riding smile quick smart and in a hurry  :butt

Layers are the answer, and get them on before you feel cold, feet and hands can be easily forgotten too. Even just jumping in your wets makes a big difference breaking the breeze.

In Walcha on your left past the roundabout Grey's cafe is good, even better Kentucky general store for Curly Fries and a ripper burger. First roundabout into Glen Innes has a ripper pie shop on the left, likewise Deepwater has a super bakery on your right as you leave town.

I'm working and Pockey should be about if not doing the Soccer mum thing.....if you want a cuppa passing through G-town :thumbsup

Cheers

Thanks Chris.  I need to get some new wets having lost my previous lot on the recent qld trip.  I have been up that a few time recently but never when it has been really cold so it will be a new experience for me.
Cheers Todd
