Buckety to St Albans
« on: January 28, 2018, 08:01:03 AM »
Hi,
Is the road from Buckety to StAlbans (direct) remotely ST friendly? I believe it is predominantly dirt, which is fine so long as it is friendly dirt.

cheers
Troy

Going down to ground level the road looks like it was sealed at some time in the past but no longer maintained - probably doable on the ST with a little caution. Mine is ok on made dirt roads though it doesn't like corrugations but then it's not a dirt bike.

You are telling me what I feared. Its 35 km from Buckety to St Albans as opposed to the loop all the way around via Spencer. Another site suggested that it takes a couple of hours to do the same by car.

Looks like i will remain taking the scenic route.

On Streetview it looks like it would best be driven in a fourby, despite once having had some bitumen on it.  Maybe they just laid a single run of seal and haven't touched it since.
The one creek crossing I looked at on Streetview was just a culvert, with quite a lot of water running over the road, so it's not a wet weather road, quite apart from the muddy surface.
Amazing they sent the Streetview camera car along it, really, when I look at more likely candidates for filming.
BTW.  You know how you often wish there was a shot halfway between shots- e.g.a letterbox number?  Apparently the camera records an image every 2.5 seconds.
FWIW, if you have time to kill, go look at some of the world's remote countries, e.g NE Russia.  It's also instructive to note the countries that forbid entry to Google's camera cars.
Now.  What was the question??      >:()      :rofl

I know this road and I would not do it on an ST. I have driven it in my Forester a couple of times and I definitely would not have taken my ST1300 down it.
