After getting back from this ride
http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=12898.msg1241473#msg1241473 from WA the rear tyre developed a slight leak and would go flat within two days.
A few days ago I ordered so Ride On Sealant to see how this stuff would go as the tyre still has about half it's life left and it arrived yesterday.
http://gonetouring.com.au/Accessories/tabid/91/Accessory/385/Ride-On-Tyre-Protection-Sealant-and-Balancer.aspxI had checked the tyre a few times and still couldn't see or hear any air escaping and before attempting to put the sealant in got some soapy water checked the tyre out again. I doubted that the shorter valve would have been an issue as the previous owner left a screw on right angle valve in a fairing pocket. On the 1100 I bend the longer ones over when checking the air and haven't had one fail yet. The tyre had ran most of 2600km without a leak so that put paid to a faulty tyre and rim seal leaving an object in the tread pattern the most probable cause.
Pumped the tyre for the soapy water test.

Went over the whole tyre, checked valve stem and tyre to rim seal and came up with a tiny piece of metal or nail in thread. Could have been there for ages and just riding around would have slowly driven it deeper until the tyre leaked.

Put the sealant in the tyre and rotated the wheel so the hole was at the bottom and let it sit for awhile. The leak had slowed a little when I took this photo.

Started the bike for a warm up and let the tyre sit for a little longer while I cleaned up the mess in Tammie's garage and when done spun the rear wheel with motor on idle. It was a good test for the side stand switch as the motor cut out when I put it in gear; 12 years the with an 1100A and I still forget sometimes.
Looked all good and no more leaking evident I managed to turn the bike around going a 6 point U turn and rode her ("Wildfire" says Heather) home.
Will check it gain tomorrow morning to see the leak was fixed.
Looking at the tyre I'd say it was a little worse for wear but a new tyre going on in a few weeks time as the 1100 will be out of rego until I need to tow the trailer in October.
