How many people have downloaded the COVIDSafe app and how central has it been to Australia's coronavirus response?

I downloaded it early, I'm considered at risk from the virus.

Afterall, if Google can tell me that I'm about to get rained on, give me information on products I have looked at online (even just once), can finish an autofill for me with the correct suggestion when searching on a related topic, then I have no privacy left and my data is being sold by google etc to third parties, then i don't really have a lot to fear from anyone else, including the Government.

Guys,

I would rather know that they can trace where the source came from, that way they can treat all before it gets away again.

For those who who have doubts about Covid 19 and events leading up too it, this may interest you:

Warning there is disturbing information information in this documentary:

Before watching the above video (it is not a documentary, a documentary is a factual report on a particular subject), it would be wise to watch this video first:

I have a very old phone, no internet connection or blutooth.  Damned if I am going to buy a new phone, just because the Gummint says I have to download an unwanted App.

Fairly typical of the ABC - a no news story with a negative slant on the Government. It irritates me my taxes have to pay for this organisation.
It has an important role at times of emergencies, sadly the rest of the time it lacks balance and often attempts to create news rather than report news.
If a person doesn't like media like News or Sky etc they have the opportunity not to subscribe - this is not the case with the ABC.

<hard hat on>

The ABC is a bunch of lefties.  They can hardly be called impartial. And very often their article headlines are click-bait which bear little resemblance to the article content.

I guess the Liberal/Coalition would much rather the ABC were a bunch of "Righties" hey???  :grin

At the end of the day I don't really care as long as they continue calling out dodgy stuff from either side of politics... :thumb

Oh, and I do believe the news the ABC spits out is more accurate than what the likes of Murdoch & Kerry Stokes etc feed us... :whistle

I'm with you on that. Plus, half the stuff I see on the public broadcasters' 'news' looks more like 'infomercial' to me. I try to stay away from it.

Maybe you don't use your hat often enough  :grin

I was going to wind up on the SMH, however, one of the really good things about Ozstoc is that the politics is kept to the barest minimum so I'm not going to get on my soap box, excepting under extreme provocation. Stay safe everyone and so far there have been no knocks at the door after midnight following the downloading of the Covid App.

COVIDSafe app yet to identify close contacts of COVID-19 cases

It was supposed to be the key to ending lockdown, but two months after it was launched and COVIDSafe is yet to identify any unknown cases.

It was touted by Prime Minister Scott Morrison as the key out of lockdown.

But two months after COVIDSafe was first launched, it is yet to help detect any close contacts of confirmed coronavirus cases that were not found through contact tracing, Channel 9 reports.

There was a story saying it did identify someone in Victoria that the other tracing had missed. Also I think the 15 minute contact is far too long and of cause if people don't download well it won't work.

That story was "updated" in one of those links that I'd posted previously...  :law

In May, Victoria announced that one potential exposure had been picked up by the app that manual contact tracers did not locate, but further investigation later found the interaction did not meet the close contact criteria.

An issue also may be that certain groups may not download the app, especially if they come from a background with an even greater distrust of the gubberment than some on here.

As seen on TV, so it must be so, there are some with no intent of complying with the requests to restrict their activities.

A comment made to me the other day was along the lines that many have complied with requests to limit ourselves as "it's the right thing to do for everyone else - it's what Australians do - look after their mates"

I guess...but with this minimum 15 minute thing you do have to wonder how much of "the real thing" it could be missing...  :think1

With the recent "spike" in cases in Victoria it will also be interesting to see what results the "App" throws up in future...

I suspect there may be a "critical mass" component in relation to the success of the Covid App and thankfully Australia has been able to keep the infection rate suppressed which may mean the App didn't perform as well as expected. Good luck? No doubt. Good management? In the case of the health authorities - definitely., In the case of the pollies - that will depend on your personal leanings.
For my "No sh!t Sherlock" statement, the biggest threat to keeping the disease suppressed is complacency. Over the last couple of weeks here in SA I've noticed and commented on people forgetting about social distancing and other activities to protect against spread - we've been lucky here because there has been bugger all disease in the first place and our Chief Medical Officer is very, very good at her job. It won't take much for this to change and I suspect complacency is the reason Victoria is in the situation it is at the moment.
Complying with the recommendations is so important and the comment highlighted by Shillas:  many have complied with requests to limit ourselves as "it's the right thing to do for everyone else - it's what Australians do - look after their mates" is just fantastic and I hope it continues.
