Not interested in pushing for cheaper rego & tolls and being able to park your bike on the footpath, Bodø? 

I for one begrudge paying more for bike rego than I pay for my car...

But, at the end of the day it's your choice whether you sign or not......

You're lucky then, Brock! 
But then again, Perth is pretty much just a big country town so you probably don't need to park your bike on a footpath... 

Here in Victoria, on top of the cost of motorcycle rego & compulsory third party we are also slugged a "so called" safety tax which is currently $73.70 bringing the cost to nearly $700 for those that live in Melbourne.

Tolls are half of what a car driver has to pay.

Same here.  In Adelaide you can park on some designated footpaths.  CTP is also included in rego and as I don't have a car can't compare the cost.  Insurance is more expensive than a car.

My bike rego in SA is $405 including CTP, compared to $649 for our car.    In genreral, there is no free footpath parking for bikes, except for a couple of small spots in the CBD, but there is a fair amount of free "on street" bike parking in the CBD.

We don't have tolls or footpath parking in the NT but to register a 900cc bike for six months costs the same as registering a little Ford Focus that has a 1300cc motor for 12 months due to the fact that the NT gumbootmen class cars on number of cylinders and bikes on number of cc's.

So...do any of you lot think being able to park your bike on the footpath is a good thing?
Would you like cheaper rego? Would you like to see more bikes and less cars on our roads?

One thing that I've learnt about motorcyclists, most are apathetic when it comes to motorcycle politics.

Anyhow, here's hoping some will sign the petition...nothing will ever change if we all sit on our hands...

I am content with what I pay.  I know you don't get something for nothing at any concession you get here they'll claw back elsewhere,  possibly more.

I wish pedestrians would use footpaths and cyclists would use bicycles lanes and paths.  Parking has never been a problem for me.   I've already said wire fencing has never bothered me.  Maybe I am apathetic,  but I am content.

I have 3 major gripes when it comes to Victoria's motorcycle rego costs...

1. The so called safety tax...No other mode of transport on our roads pay a safety tax. In fact, no other State in Australia charges motorcyclists a "safety tax" on top of their normal rego costs.
Part of this "safety tax" is used to supposedly make roads safer for motorcyclists. Things such as roadside signs, barriers and road surfaces...  |
Surely roads should be safe for ALL road users without taxing one particular group, especially a group that cause minimal damage to roads.

2. The cost of compulsory third party insurance.
It "supposedly" covers a "third party" and not the rider so why do we pay so much?
How often does a third party get injured as a result of a motorcycle crash? I would imagine there would be way more third parties involved with a car crash yet motorcyclists pay more than a car driver... 

3. All the money the TAC wastes on advertising and sport sponsorship...
It's not as if we have a choice of different companies so why is there a need for advertising as such?
Surely all the money poured into the above could be better used to lower premiums...

   .  I totally agree with you Rustynutz we are targeted for all sorts of fee's and chargers because we are a minority group .We do need a organised group to represent us who have some power.  (teeth)Vic does seem to have more than its fair share of Cardigans who seem to dislike anything to do with motorbikes.

Done, and remember the old addage (a bit lefty of me) "united we stand, divided we fall". The larger the voice, the more influential we can be at achieving this goal. I have 3 motorbikes fully insured and registered (yes, my choice) and 2 cars (again my choice). However, my argument has always been; Since I can only ride/drive one vehicle at a time, why do I have to pay all these insurances and rego's.

So often motorcyclists will just sit back and let "the few" do all the work yet are happy to reap any benefits that "the few" may win.

Just a reminder of some of the changes bought about over the years through lobbying & other means:
In no particular order...

*Repeal of 80kph rural speed limit for motorcyclists with pillions.
*Change of 'Keep Left' law for motorcyclists - now allowed to ride in any position within the lane rather than "as near as practicable to the left-hand side of the road".
*Lobbied for development of skid-resistant road marking paint.
*Repeal of "dark coloured" helmet ban.
*European standard ECE 22.05 helmets...giving us more choice.
*Repeal of 'Lights-On' legislation.
*Non requirement of front number plates.
*Learner approved motorcycle scheme (LAMS) to replace the 250cc learner limit.
*Stopped the Australian Road Rule (ARR) proposal to specifically ban lane splitting and filtering.
*Amendment to ARR 271 to allow standing on footpegs.
*Lane filtering for motorcycles now legal.
*Footpath parking allowed in the State of Victoria.
*Repeal of the NSW EPA aftermarket exhaust sticker requirement.

So, even though motorcycle headlights are still coming into the country hardwired, there's nothing stopping you from fitting a switch to turn them off during the day...

As you live in Victoria, part of that $696.30 will be the sneaky "road safety tax" which is currently $73.70.
Notice how they don't tell you that on your rego renewal notice, they just lump it in with your TAC... 

Actually, that reminds me...When this road safety tax was first introduced, you had to pay it on every motorcycle you owned.
Due to intense lobbying etc this was eventually changed to just the one charge, regardless as to how many motorcycles you have registered.
A bit of a "win" but, we're still lumbered with a "tax" that no other road user group pays...

I for one would like to have that option...
As for evidence, the reason the law was repealed was because the evidence at the time showed that it made very much difference.

Have you noticed at night how it's much harder to judge how far an approaching vehicle is away because of the headlights?
Well, I suspect that also happens (possibly to a lesser extent though) during the day when your headlight is on...

Evidence??? Well, one of the most common accidents between cars & motorcycles are cars doing a right hand turn across in front of an oncoming motorcycle.
If having the headlight on makes it so much easier to see an approaching vehicle, why are there still so many of this type of accident?
