I chose Mongrel SP-N series with the Zip-sider.
I like the Zip-Sider for getting them on & off.
I also don't like steel caps so this N series means No steel caps.
Grip when the foot goes down is good.
I am very happy with them.

I bought mine last year for $168. Don't have a pic but the link will give you an idea.

http://www.axo.com/us/collection/street/footwear/q-gt-wp-boots
I still have these but the above link is broken

Hardly any wear on them after over two years so they will last quite a while yet. Side zip plus Velcro over that

Water resistant leather upper leather shift gear
Internal plastic shin guard and ankle guard
Anti-bacterial and anti-sweat mesh lining with waterproof membrane
Synthetic leather front and back bellows
Anatomical removable antibacterial foot bed

I have been wearing  Rossi 811 boots for a number of hears. Australian made,  comfortable, waterproof. Recently sent them back to Rossi and had them resoled for less than half the price of a new pair.
Also have some Johnny Reb original high boots, only use them for short local rides as I really don't think they woukd provide much protection.
Wear Mongrel workboots for working in wouldn't wear for riding.

I bought some Dainese touring boots in early 2014. While they are comfortable once worn in, they just are not waterproof. As bad as my worn out Dryrider boots. Anything more than constant showers and they fill up with water. So they really got wet in recent months. A pity as they still look ok, soles not worn.

I now have some Gaerne G-Altus Aquatech boots like these http://www.fc-moto.de/Gaerne-Altus-Aquatech-Touring-Boot?gclid=CJbB0-O998UCFVcTvQodmRsAcw bought locally. While a bit more expensive ($300) they have nice build quality and neat touches like a velcro tab on the zips to help close the zip and locate the tab properly.

Now have to wear them in.

I love the Rossi P134 boots... 3rd set now (get around 150,000km/set), and reasonably waterproof if you spray them with silicone spray.  I have come off a few times with these, and no foot damage (barely even a scrape on the boot).

Not suitable for people with large calves though

Watch out for Aldi early August. Lots of MC gear and the boots are good, cheap and comfortable to walk in.

Sidi B2 Motorcycle road racing boots.

Got them from Five Star Yamaha in Hamilton Hill WA back in 2011 at the shops end of financial year sale.

Last pair in the shop and just happened to be my size   :grin

Only $199 at the time, comfortable for riding, great protection, all the screw on bits and pieces are replaceable and they're still in perfect condition.      :thumbsup

I had considered wearing my Leather 8" Hi-Tech work boots on very short low speed rides in the past......you know just down the street to grab something etc .  Well not anymore :whistle

Most of you know what I do for work......Had a young man come off his LAMS approved bike today, bike only had 150k's on the clock....The incident was a result of rider inexperience....He was travelling at less than 25kph after pulling out from a roadside muddy driveway.....

He had spent the money on reasonable quality riding gear......all except his boots, he decided to used his 3/4 length, steel caped lace up work boots that were a combination of leather and mesh.....and made by a quality manufacturer  ;-*

I won't be posting the pics I took of his lower leg/ankle injury for the trauma team......but the injury earned him a ride in a Helicopter a date with an Orthopod and a Vascular surgeon.....and a protracted recovery.

Its my full length armoured boots for me now EVERYWHERE !!

Sorry to hear of his injuries. But quite a powerful message. Making me rethink the work boots on the way to work. I'll put them in the top box and wear riding boots to work.
Cheers,
Gary

Wow!       :eek    We all support ATG-ATT, but it's sometimes convenient to get a bit lazy,  and occasionally I'll duck up the road to the shop wearing ordinary jeans and elastic side boots.   This is a scary lesson.

Hey ST2UP can you send me the pics. I want to scare a kid I know who wears similar boots ignoring my repeated advise to get proper ones. This kid just got his licence last week  and already dropped it doing a u-turn

I have never been a fan of steel toe caps, as you cant feel the gear lever with your toes, and can be a bit difficult getting the toecap under the lever.

P.S.

I need to find a decent riding boot with good long wearing proper soles, that my short broad foot with high instep can get into with out being too long in the toe.

Have you looked at TCX. They fit my broad high instep size 9s.

They are/were manufacturers of BMW Boots.

Comfortable from day 1.

...... steel caped lace up work boots ....

Steel Cap Boots - back in my rider training days with RTA / VicRoads there was an anecdotal story about a heavy truck running over a rider's steel cap boot crushing and severing his toes.

Laces - with laces, you risk loose loops getting caught around the gear and / or brake lever, or foot peg, and then having difficulty putting a foot to the ground when coming to a stop, and then an ungraceful fall to the ground - I know!  Of course, you should tuck the loose ends securely between boot and sock, and hope they don't work their way loose.

I wear Alpinestars touring boots, but it's hard to identify the particular model as they've changed the style a bit since I bought them.   They fitted me like a pair of old slippers from the day I bought them, have remained totally waterprooof in dreadful conditions.  They have long wearing soles and I hardly need to carry extra shoes with me because they are so comfortable, so I walk everywhere with them when touring.   The local bootmaker told me that he can get replacement soles from Alpinestars if I ever manage to wear them out.

I alternate with Dubbin and Bootpolish for care of the leather.

I witnessed the 'laces looped over the gear lever' trick several years ago in Melbourne at a major intersection with a biker wearing colours (I wont mention the club, outlaws anyway) as he pulled up at a set of lights, and became trapped under his Harley, much to the merriment of pedestrians crossing the road at the time. Not a single driver stepped from their cars to assist, as he had made an *ssole of himself with the traffic previously. Everybody just drove around him, and let him try to sort out the problem himself. Karma.

Over the years I have tried a number of styles/brands. Started out with Rossies then QXEs, alpine stars and a couple of others and currently wearing FORMA -cape horn- Touring model. Love em. clip up and snug to the legs. Full leathers fit inside boot. Best of all water proof.
 :thumbs
Also wear bamboo socks and since I started wearing them I have never had wet wrinkled feet after hot weather trips or any trip for that matter.

+1 for Rossis, I'm on my second set as the soles disintegrated on the first pair I had. Wish I knew you could send them back to get resoled before I chucked my last set.

Something any decent boot repairer can do.  I had my Thomas Cook Rebels soled and healed around five years ago.  Whilst it cost $120.00, I consider good value.
