If we go buy what the Local Australian dealers tell us then the poor selling VFR1200 is our only option when 1300 stocks have gone.

So here's the optioned up touring version. I don't have issue with the VFR motor and DCT transmission except that it's an east-west motor as opposed to the 1100/1300 north south motor which is normal for a shaft drive. I would also prefer a twin exhaust sytsem as 4 into 1 looks unbalanced plus the overall look is sort ugly compared to the 1100.

Its definitely not pillion friendly. On my way to Mildura for the 2012 Ulysses AGM I stopped at Rankin Springs to strain a kidney. A couple on a VFR 1200 pulled up beside and got chatting to my Mrs.
After about 5 minutes of the two pillions discussing the rides, seats, pannier space his Mrs turned to him and slapped him, saying " you had the money to buy that ( pointing to my ST1300) and you bought this ( pointing to his VFR)"
She wasnt impressed by the pillion seat and the mega sore arse or the fact she had to leave the hair dryer, curler and high heels at home. :eek

My Mrs looked at me and gave me that "you've done the right thing, but I am not gunna tell you that" look :grin :hatwave

At least he was thoughtful enough to give the goat a cushion - sort of.  :crackup

The VFR1200 does nix for me from the image in the photo. Single exhaust leaves the other side naked.

The pillion seat even looks like a trip to the bus stop only, and the back rest is a back ache in the making for any short rides with a bump in it. |-i

If I bought one my lady would not be amused,  and would be following in the car. :-(((

I give this one a  :butt, my first for a big Honda bike.

Yep - highlight's the ST13s 10 year olde design as being 'acceptable' - still today.

It looks like the Trophy has all the specs that we would love to have seen in the NEW ST1300 if it ever got designed....

Fly by wire throttle, wider rear, electronic wonderland, smaller tank though...

Yep - this (FJR 13) would probably be my choice of replacement atm - they sound fantastic too.

We just have to get used to a 400-450km range now, as this seems the standard.

Seems that Mr Honda has a new philosophy.
Pop into a dealer and look at the new range or read abt the company plans.
All look to be small or midrange.
And the bikes don't have the electronic gizmos of the other manufacturers.
Seems the Big Red is stuck in a time warp.
They do minor updates while the others are adding all the bits pioneered by the beemer folk.
Those minor upgrades and lack of new technology must be hurting sales across the range since just abt everything has been discounted massively.
Perhaps we're charging too much for the stuff we ship over to turn into metal and they can't afford to build a long wheelbase bike like the ST cause it's got too much frame.
Wonder what 2014 will bring.

I test rode the new Triumph Trophy up at the Ulysses AGM at Maryborough even though it was a nice bike to ride
I went out and bought a new ST1300. The discounted price did help a bit with the decision though

Could be a long wait to buy a Triumph Trophy at roughly $28500 to ride away it's a bit more than I can even dream of spending on a bike.
I have been looking at a used '04 ST1300A with 57000ks on it here in Cairns, 1 owner (who I know personally) and only $9900. The bike has been ridden quickly but not flogged and never dropped... just need to convince SWMBO that I really need another sports tourer to go with my 1100 and Shadow 750 and Suzuki Freewind and my tinny and .......

For the money one would spend on the beemer I'd get a Goldwing. I've never heard of a Goldwing final drive packing it in whereas BMW .. too many times.

I wouldn't buy the 1600 either. It was more a choice out of the newer ones on the market.

We're looking at getting a low km 1300a in a couple years time.
