this looked like a good idea, keep ones hands away from hot oil

Pault, I have one on my 4WD, BUT, it is the horizontal position, faces rearwards and is protected by the sump.

It does take longer to drain, so make sure your oil is warm/hot.

If you really want to do that why not go to an engineering supply shop and get a normal ball valve and screw it into the sump. They sell for less than $10.00 for a 12mm one.

The ST11 sump plug is too exposed to use one of those for my liking.  I was thinking of getting one for the car as it has a protective plate for the sump/oil filter.
