Fuel Cap hard to remove

Saw this on a US site and it works great
"The ST 1100 gas cap will get harder to get off but some grease will help this The trick is to apply the grease to the upper surface of the gasket, the surface that contacts the gas cap. Try it, you will be surprised how much better this works.

 :thumb I'm going to grease my seal as my cap can be very tight  especially when vapour pressure and temps are up... I'll report on it in a week or so.   may help my times on the SS1600 next weekend, :hatwave  thamks Dallas for the tip..  :thumbs

johnny, I concur with Dallas. I get a lot of pressure build up and it used to be hell to untwist on a hot day at the servo. I used a fair amount of grease (wiped off the excess) between the gasket and the metal part of the fuel cap and it now comes off very smoothly, without any effort. I just repeat the process every 12 months or so.

It's been too long since my ST1100 days, but I recall that was an excellent trick.
Replace the grease every few months as Reuben says, because the fuel and vapour gradually dissolve it.

Since it's warmed up a little over the past couple weeks I haven't noticed the fuel cap being a little harder to remove compared to the cooler months: yet.

Or over 8 years I've got used to it.......nah!!! can't be that as last summer I needed two hands to undo the cap on a couple of fills. So, it's out to the tool shed to find (and I do mean find) the grease and do mine. I saw it yesterday but now that I want it I won't be able to find it.

Well that was a long week..  :grin
I used a marine grade molly grease  :thumb and my wriST certainly appreciates it. :thumbs
 My fuel cap comes of as easy as now,, so guys even vasoline  will grease it up..juST dont use too much :-(((

Put the smear of grease between the lid itself and the seal, not the tank and seal.

I use Vaseline on the upper side of the washer.  It seems to last a year or so, Phil
