Ok, so out for a little ride this morning (good to see you again Col) and not that many "bikers" wave/nod. I say "bikers" because they are on a motorbike. I was taught to acknowledge other bikers on the road. Out of a hundred only a handful return a nod/wave. So do you wave? If so, are you clicky (only other ST's/Goldy's/Harley's/etc)? Or do you wave/nod to all?

Most of the time yes, sometimes it's not always possible like in mid corner etc.

My experience is that about 80% of cruiser and sport bike riders don't acknowledge while more 95% of Tourer type bike riders do.

I even get car drivers waving when we ride between some of local towns around here.

off the beaten track, I wave to all drivers... on the highway, to truckers and other bikes.

... any more waves from me, and I would be more popular than the Gold Coast surf.

I wave to all other motorcyclists. And to truck drivers - they go unrecognised on the highways and often wave back to a motor bike rider. Both kind of knights of the road.

Well chaps, I wave or nod to all fellow motorbike riders, and wave frantically when they are heading for a constabulary trap... BUT I do not wave to tractor riders (Harleys) as they never see me and are only interested in skull and crossbones, minitaure helemets for their small heads, and where is the next pub.

We often have Camera cars east of here, If I spot one parked at the side of the road, I indicate to the oncoming truckers by holding an imaginary camera, pointing back, and indicating distance by holding up fingers.

They always acknowledge by waving, or thumbs up

I even wave at the 1 percenters, then chuckle to myself when they ignore me,,,

I wave most of the time. Particularly when I'm on my Harley and wearing my vest because it just confirms to me that most riceburner riders have pre conceived ideas about Harley riders and are too rude or insecure to just be friendly to everyone.

Waving is a gift you give, who cares who waves back.

Most of the time I`ll either give a nod or a wave when I can .............................not fussed if no return...................probably run 50% or a whisker more................................just acknowledging another road user.

I wave to everyone except harley tossers. I have noticed over the last few years it is becoming rarer for fellow riders to wave back.
I have also pulled up at servos and say goodday to a another rider and been completely fobbed off, the last one was wearing a Ulysses patch and riding a Burgman.
Maybe its just me. I'll have to "patch up" to get some cred.

We're a friendly bunch over here and pretty much all wave on the open road, even around town for the most part (not Auckland of course). About 50% of the Harley's wave back, or at least give a nod.

I did think when riding around Oz last that there was a noticeable shortage in reciprocal waving. I just put it down to not taking your eyes off the verges while scanning for marsupials

I wave to all but get ticked of by that attitude of the majority of HOG riders. (That is not a generalisation but a reasonably accurate estimation in my view)

I noticed Wombattle leap to their defence but if cap fits mate they gotta wear it.

I am certainly not alone in that view so maybe you could foster better biker relations by pointing out to some of your hog riding colleagues that a lot of them are up themselves.

Shock and disbelief this morning as were on our way over to Port Pirie.

A Cruiser (could have been a Harley) rider waved today and even before one of us.

When I was riding a cruiser back a few years ago I waved to all others on the road

I found that when on a cruiser the sports bike riders were the ones that would snub the cruiser riders

(I still waved to them and just thought to myself they must be going to fast to notice me wave

)

If I see a bike on the road I will wave and/or nod

if they don't respond I'll assume either they didn't see me wave/nod, or they are too sh!t scared to let go of the handle bars. Most respond and some even give a big grin!

I don't find any particular group worse than the other for failing to return a wave.

You're not alone there, we've noticed that as well but they tend to be younger riders anyway and possibly from the city where being friendly is a mortal sin..........lol

I noticed that around Melbourne, smiling is against the law. Smile at someone, and they look at you strange. ..... could get arrested, or beaten up, if you smile at someone.

Sometimes I nod.

But then, being from a city, I should never show signs of friendliness...right?

Being a city type myself.......though Eyre Peninsula in SA everyone waves to everyone no matter what they drive or ride....
