Then you can just imagine what it would be like on a white bike, with a white helmet :law

Of course, you wouldn't know how much faster they are unless you rode one though :grin

I'm sure that people are more careful when I get behind them on my ST1100.. and it's black.. maybe it's the shape.. my helmet is the white Nolan flip-face..
I had a car today that moved into the left passing lane (the short ones where there is a right turn).. pain the the clacka coz I'm not going to do it, so I had to wait til he got his act together and got going again.. then 100 metres down the road I used the broken line to pass him.

There are many paths to the top of the mountain.....but we all need to find our own way!

After 4 months of not turning a wheel I fired up the schWING to day and joined a redlands Ulysses ride down through the Gold Coast hinterland and into NSW stopping for lunch at the kings cliff bowls club.
At a guess we had about 20 -25 bikes riding together ...... On the ride we saw two hwy patrols and they showed no outward signs of interest.
Some of our group had vests including the old man patch and we had a mixed bag of noisy cruisers , adventure bikes and a few WINGS.
I can only assume we didn't fit the selection criteria.....
I jus wanna ride my bike

Some scare mongering about the QLD laws coming to VIC.

Mrs W and I went for lunch in Healesville today.  I ordered a pot of tea and a Caesar salad, don't think I meet the profile either,  Mrs W ordered an ice coffee and baked potato with ALL of the trimmings - living dangerously I think.

Love the last comment by the Cop.

"We have a saying in the police: If you don't like the police then the next time you're afraid or in trouble, call a drug dealer."
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

I don't think that Police whining to the media about their job is good PR. Yes, they cop crap they shouldn't. The law makers and judiciary don't help out. Most of the public don't care a bit about this type of whining, it's stating the obvious. The ones that do care are happy about the stuff he's complaining about or they are Police/family. He shouldn't be discussing the circumstances of the two cases he had no involvement in. Here we have a traffic cop quacking like a dope.

In the write-up he is a Sgt, referred to as Bundabergs top cop (and that's now.. during the problems with these laws.. in QLD) and a union Rep.. so I think that he has a pretty good idea.. maybe a more than you and I.

My brother in law is an ex-Victoria cop (21 years+).. I have sent the link. I'm interested now to see if he believes that the Sgt's story is unacceptable or bad PR.

Rodd I am not saying I disagree with any of the sentiment or even the laws (or their intent). I have expressed in another forum I don't have an issue with being stopped by Police for whatever reason while they are doing their duty.  But telling the public if I ride my Harley in Queensland and wear my black Draggin Jeans HOG vest I am quacking like a duck by default is just plain stupid and it's the wrong message. Does the public  now have to be afraid and assume I am a duck unless I wear a chicken suit? Try getting away with this sort of flippant generalisation if you were talking about race or sex or disability.

The joke about asking for help from a drug dealer if you don't like Police is old as the hills and good meal room talk in the station but suggesting to the media that Police might even think that way is unnecessary and unprofessional. It's not funny to everyone and shouldn't be said.

Conspiracy theorists should ride in my car and see what a crap job we have.... Whinge whinge. It's the job. The good public know it, appreciate it and don't need to hear it. The conspiracy theorists have a field day on the other unprofessional bits.

Whatever the guy does or knows, he needs media training. I appreciate the heads up about what I might know better, I would like think that you just meant that I am entitled to an opinion but it's not the same as yours. That way it's not personal.

I can understand, I'm not sure that he chose the best words. The way I would put it is.. the organised crime gangs just happen to mostly ride Harleys, and wear leather jackets, etc just like a number of other bike riders. The cops don't know who is who unless they stop and ask.

I'm not a policeman so I thought the comment about the drug dealer was a good one. Not many people think like that when they are complaining about the cops doing their job.

I usually try to be very careful about what words I use, but after reading that line (mine that I removed) I wasn't happy that others would not read it the wrong way and that didn't sit very well with me.

Having had kids that are mostly adults now I know how much of an impact words can have on their belief. It worries me when I read the comments and responses under the article in the link. I have made comment in other places about what I see in the U.K. with the Police and the difference with the U.S. (but I can only go on what is presented to us).. the U.S Police appear to be more cautious yet mostly seem to be respected.. the U.K. Police appear to have little power and seem to be treated with utter contempt. I just wonder where Aussie Police sit.

I agree with what you say about 'people going for a ride in his car'.. it's a silly comment and something that would be unlikely to be allowed.

I should add here, too.. that I have contacted our local QLD member of the National Party. I'm not associated with any party. She personally responded to my email in the first instance and in detail. I have dealt with her a couple of times and have always been treated with the utmost repect, the first was just after our house was involved in the floods here. I said that I felt that more needed to be done to combat the misinformation. She replied basically saying that the Gov't knows that they are getting 'pasted' over these new laws, but they have to see them through. She also seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say and will be looking into it further (my words, but her sentiment).

Firstly, Great conversation here peoples good to see people "discussing" this rather than throwing hand grenades.

I am still curious to see anyone who has been genuinely affected by there laws, not second and third hand information, and not some video that the press has got their hands on.

I was speaking with one of the members of the Toowoomba Riders Club today, and he asked me how our club had been affected, and he was surprised when I said it has not affected us at all, when I pressed him none of his club had been affected either to his knowledge.

I have absolutely no issue with being pulled over and asked who I am and what my story is, I have nothing to hide so it does not bother me.

All I know is they are trying to stop bad guys, and I am good with that, the police do a job that none of us would like to do, and stand in the of fire to help us sleep at night, I teach my kids that is why you respect the men and women with a badge, they have to make decisions and deal with people that I hope I never have to.

I have stopped reading media articles about it, because it seems that if they catch news of a sneeze at one end of the street, they will write about the cannonball that was fired by the time they walk the length of the street.....

My motorbike mate on FB that put the video up (of the biker at the petrol station) basically sided with the guy in the video at first. He was heading out on a good ride over the weekend and wondered if he was going to be harassed by the Police. I explained what I knew and understood (similar to what I have written in my other post) and he accepted that I had made valid points. I asked if he had any problems over the weekend, and he has just replied now, saying that it was all good.

Had a nice little ride early on Sunday in the cool of the morning before the day got hot.  Took a back road which had a nice long straight, no houses, no oncoming cars, white line down the middle all the way.  I know how fast they go.  I only did it the once, and won't have to do it ever again.  But those ST1100PYs are nice and steady when the speedo reading starts with 2, and I don't mean around town speeds either.
At my age you realise something very important, then ten minutes later you've forgotten it.
